Recommended Focal Length - 85mm to 100mm
Aperture - F/11 (F/2.8 for bokeh effects)
Other Useful Notes:
- Use seamless background in your shoot if possible (or muslin background if suitable)
- Keep the background as simple as possible in outdoor shoots of people
- Focus directly on the subject's eyes
- Position your camera at the subject's eye level, 8 to 10 feet away from your subject
- Apply rule of the thirds (see my previous article on this) in your composure
- Try zooming in close so your subject's face fills the entire frame. Also try zooming in close enough so that either the top of the head or the sides (the ears) actually extend outside the frame
- For outdoor shoot, move subjects into shade and use fill flash
